Why MP4 is the right format for X videos
Videos on X are encoded in H.264 with AAC sound and delivered as MP4. Download X saves that file exactly as X stores it — no re-encoding, so you keep the original picture and the download is instant.
GIFs on X are MP4 loops too, so they download the same way. Live broadcast replays are streamed in small segments; when the server supports it, Download X joins them into one MP4 file instead of a .ts stream.
The result opens everywhere: iPhone Photos, Android Gallery, Windows and Mac players, WhatsApp, Telegram, PowerPoint, CapCut, Premiere and DaVinci Resolve.
How to convert a Twitter video to MP4
From post link to MP4 file in three steps.
Copy the post link
On X, tap Share under the post and choose “Copy link”. Links from x.com and twitter.com both work.
Paste it above
Paste the link into the box at the top of this page and press Download. All available versions appear in a table.
Save the MP4
Press the yellow button for the best MP4, or pick a smaller one to save data. The file is named after the author and the post, ready to share.
What you get for each type of post
| On X | You get | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Video | MP4 (H.264 + AAC) in every quality X stores | The original file, no quality loss |
| GIF | MP4 loop, or a converted .gif | Silent, and loops in most apps |
| Live broadcast replay | One MP4 file (or MPEG-TS) | Long replays keep downloading while the segments are joined |
| Only the sound | MP3 or M4A audio | Use the Audio row or the Twitter to MP3 tool |
Only public posts can be converted. Files are fetched from X’s servers and streamed to you as they are converted; Download X does not keep a copy.
The fastest way: just add “2007” before x.com
Watching a video on X? In your browser’s address bar type “2007” right before “x.com” and press Enter — your download opens instantly. On a twitter.com link, replace “twitter.com” with “2007x.com”.

Does converting to MP4 reduce the quality?
No. X already stores videos as MP4, so we save the original file without re-encoding. The picture is identical to what X plays.
Which MP4 quality should I choose?
The top row is the best quality, usually 1080p. Pick 720p or lower if you want a smaller file for messaging apps or slow connections.
Can I convert an X GIF to MP4?
Yes. GIFs on X are stored as MP4 loops, so the MP4 row gives you the original file. A real .gif is offered too if you need one.
Will the MP4 play on my iPhone?
Yes. The H.264/AAC MP4 plays natively on iPhone and iPad. After downloading, open it in the Files app and tap Share → “Save Video” to move it to Photos.
Is there a length or size limit?
There is no limit on our side for videos. Very long live replays take a few minutes to assemble, and the download starts immediately while that happens.
Is Download X free?
Yes. Download X is completely free and there is no limit on the number of videos you can download.
Do I need an X account or to log in?
No. You only need the link of a public post. We never ask for your X username or password.
Where are downloaded videos saved?
Files go to your browser’s default download folder — usually “Downloads” on computers and Android, and the Files app → Downloads on iPhone and iPad.
Is it legal to download videos from X?
Downloading for personal, offline viewing is generally fine, but the content belongs to its creator. Do not re-upload or use videos commercially without permission.
